Brief Answer:
Confirmed diagnosis is important

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

In my understanding what you have seems to be chronic parotitis. This can be caused by a number of reasons right from obstructing salivary duct because of stones, stricture, infections, drugs, dehydration and some autoimmune reasons. First we need to find what is the reason for swelling. Do you have any symptoms like dry mouth and dry eyes, do you have fever? How was your child hood throat infections?

I think a competent doctor (ENT) can do a sialography, tissue biospy and histocompatibility testing to know the reason.

After the cause is found the treatment can be given. For few removal of both parotid glands can be considered.

Please let me know if you have any more queries else you may please end our discussion.
