Question: What is the cause of enlarged upper left gum and two growths on the roof of my mouth? Neither of the areas are painful unless I eat something rough that scatches my upper mouth. The growths seem hard like bone . Any response is appreciated. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Gum infection, Palatine torus.

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.

As per your complain and presentation of symptoms enlarged gum can be most commonly due to infection in gums and inflammation of the gums due to infection leads to swollen gums and they eventually appears enlarged and spongy..
For this condition consulting an Oral Physician and getting a check-up done and if there is infection in gums Scaling and Curettage followed by antibiotics and painkillers and topical application of gum paint will relieve..

The other part of the question is Bony hard lumps over the roof of mouth: It is commonly due to over growth of palatal bone forming bony hard nodular mass known as PALATINE XXXXXXX and it is a harmless condition although due to protrusion in that area by bone the overlying mucosa may get irritated and painful when scratched by some hard foods or exposed to hot fluids..

Nothing to worry about it also as these growths can be very much removed by an oral surgeon surgically if you find discomfort having them..

So you are advised correctly that you should consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated..

As of now if the mucosa get irritated and painful you can apply numbing gel containing Lignocaine over the mucosa for relief..
Take a soft diet..

If you have any further queries you can write me back, I will be happy to help..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
