Suggest Remedy For Swollen Finger After A Course Of Antibiotics

default
Posted on Tue, 4 Aug 2015
Question: Hi, I had a ward on my left middle finger. I continued to poke at it, until it got infected. I went to the doctor and took antibiotics for two weeks, the redness and infection went away. However, the top part of my finger is a little swollen, it does not hurt, it is not hot, it is a little red, but feels uncomfortable because I cannot bend it all the way. I am getting married in three months, and feel apprehensive about needing surgery or it getting worse. I made an appointment with a Rheumatologist, but will not be able to see him for three weeks, any advice is appreciated. Thank youXXXX.

Brief Answer:
Possible tendinous panaritium

Detailed Answer:
hi and welcome.
it doesn't sound very serious but in some cases it may be infection of deeper finger tissues called tendinous panaritium. in this case you should see plastic surgeon or hand specialist for further treatment. wish you good health. regards

Do you think that going to the rheumatologist is a good idea first?

Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
yes, you can see rheumatologist and he 'll probably prescribe painkillers and anti-inflammatory medication. it would be good to find good physical therapy, for example therapeutic ultrasound or magnet therapy.
