Suggest Remedy For Soreness On Shoulder And Upper Arm

default
Posted on Tue, 17 Mar 2015
Question: I have had a sore shoulder/upper arm for a couple months now. It hurts if I raise my arm straight up from my side and try to get it shoulder height. A frontward motion does not make it hurt. I have no recollection of hurting it. Just this past two weeks I have started an exercise class and there are some motions I cannot do, I have had typical muscle soreness from the exercise class but that went away and the should/arm still hurt. I assume I need to check it out but I can't imagine what it can be. I can find a tender spot when my arm is to my side about 4" down the front towards the inside but still on front. It is sore in that area but one particular spot is tender.

Brief Answer:
such kind of pain can due to shoulder rotator cuff muscle injury.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have read your query.

I can understand your concern with already on so many medicines.

According to your history and complains such kind of pain can due to rotator cuff injury
Another differential can be early frozen shoulder which may need MRI for confirmation.
You can do your investigation consulting your doctor.
You may consult physiotherapist for further guidance. He may start TENS, or ultrasound which is helpful in your case.
Consult physiotherapist for guided against resistance exercises.

Also check your vit B12 and vit D3 in your blood.

Yes, thank you for your prompt response. You helped me understand what may be going on with my shoulder. I do not believe it is a frozen shoulder because it feels totally different from my frozen shoulder about 10 years ago. Rotator cuff makes sense because of the location but I have done nothing that I recall that "hurt" which would indicate that I injured it so I am wondering do they just kind of wear out with declining age (yes, I am 60 but I like to think of myself as a young 60)? I am active with walking and minimal workouts, due to the need for a hip replacement, and I try to keep busy moving due to the arthritic knees hips and back that I have. You mentioned "all the meds I am on" indicating that it is a lot. I have never thought about it like that. I have migraines, RLS, arthritis and HBP (a bit overweight and working on it). Is that really a lot for someone of my age? The first three I have no choice or control about and the last one I can get rid of losing an additional 20 lbs. I'm just curious. I never thought of it as a lot. Perhaps because I am an insurance agent that handles primarily MEDICARE products and I see LOTS of meds in some of these seniors and your comment sort of rattled me.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

I would also help you to reduce your doses of medicine which you are already on.

Take out from your mind that you can’t do anything for first 3 [migraines, RLS, arthritis]

Many of my patients get relief by yoga, pranayama and XXXXXXX XXXXXXX so you can also due that.
If you do regular practice of these techniques, your medicine doses can be reduced or stopped.

For your shoulder I have already advised you. Yes I also consider you as young at 60.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care.
