Question: I had a hysterectomy last April. I am not having pain on my left side where my ovary used to be. It comes and goes and is sharp when it hits. Should I be concerned?

Brief Answer:
Can be intestinal colic or renal colic.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Almost 9 months after hysterectomy the pain that you are having is not likely to be related to the surgery that you had. If the pain is not so severe and is colicky in nature then it can be an intestinal pain due to peristalsis. Intestinal distension or a mild infection can also cause such a short lasting pain.
In case the pain is severe and is recurrent then other causes like a renal calculus and ovarian cyst needs to be ruled out after a detailed examination and investigations like ultrasound scan. Taking an over the counter antispasmodic can help you till then.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
