Brief Answer:
It seems like fungal infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi there, Welcome to HCM.
I have gone through your query.

It is difficult to say what it is without examination but based on the information it might be fungal infection. As you have mentioned itching, you might have scratched it, that might have resulted in darkening.

It will be better if you can upload the photos for better assessment.

Please don't mind but I would like to know your sex, as suggestions may be slightly different for male and female.

I would suggest you to wear loose clothing.

Choose cotton underwear (and go without when at home).

To cleanse the area, use your fingers instead of a washcloth and an unscented, non-alkaline cleanser such as Cetaphil or Basis, you can use mild soap like Dermadew.

Soak for five minutes in lukewarm water to remove any residue of sweat or lotions or other products.
XXXXXXX dry, and apply any over the counter antifungal / antibacterial powder.

Avoid scratching, as it may result in secondary infection. If itching is severe you can take over the counter oral antihistamine like Tab CETIRIZINE 5mg once daily at bedtime for 7 days.

This provisional advice provided by me is based entirely on the input provided to me. I would suggest examination by the doctor.

Hope this helps.
Take care.
