Posted on Mon, 28 Sep 2015
Question: I am having constant abdominal pain in the left side for the past 2 and a half years. About a year ago the pain started spreading and now I have a constant throbbing pain in my left pelvic area including testis and my left calf. Sometimes my left hand also feel the throbbing pain and I am unable to do or concentrate on any kind of stuff. My stomach always seems to be full and have trouble in my bowel movements. I have had a Ultrasound scan for my kidneys,Colonoscopy, blood tests. But the reports suggests that everything is normal. Painkillers are of no use either. I am really frustrated with my condition.

Brief Answer:
All problems are left sided hence MRI of the brain and the spinal cord

Detailed Answer:
Hi young man.
Thanks for your query.
I can understand the plight you must be going through due to not getting a proper diagnosis and curative treatment.
To recapitulate: Young 20 years/male - constant pain - left side of abdomen - two and half years - now spreading to left testis, calf and left pelvic area and sometimes left hand - *all on the left side - unable to concentrate - full stomach and trouble in BM - investigations done are normal - Doctors prescribed painkillers but of no use -

My thoughts with reasoning:
Since you have all the problems on the left side of the body as mentioned by you and the reports are normal, I would think of the reasons in the brain or the spinal cord.
I would advise you to consult a Neurologist for a clinical evaluation and examination and get MRI of the brain and the whole spine done.
It is possible that the reason may be found.

I hope this answer helps you to get a proper diagnosis, and get a proper further treatment. Please feel free to ask for more or if you need further clarifications or if you feel there is a gap of communication.

As per you advised I did see a neurologist today and his impression on my symptoms is that it has something to do with me being overweight. (I weigh around 84 kilos) Although he did ordered a blood test and a rather odd skin smear test. I don't know if I am ever gonna be healthy again. The test reports are due for tomorrow. The pain is really extreme around the pelvic area these days.Feels like it might blow up my testicles at times.

Brief Answer:
Please give details about the site and the type of the pain and the details

Detailed Answer:
I can understand the plight you must be going through.
Let us see the reports to discuss further.
May I please know our height? Let us calculate the BMI at 84 kg.
May I also know which area you are having the pain, when you say around the pelvic area and it feels like the testicle/s might blow up. What exactly the problem is, please explain.
It may be worth to have an ultrasonography and color doppler of the scrotum and abdomen.

Thanks you.

My height is about 6ft.
The blood test results came in normal so did the skin analysis.
The scrotal pain mainly resides to the left testis and at times gives inflammatory sensations during walking or any other physical activities.
A friend if mine suggested me that I might me suffering from epididymitis and said Azitromycin can be if help. But I really wanna hear from the experts.

Brief Answer:
Ultrasonography and color doppler of the scrotum

Detailed Answer:
With the height of 6 ft and 84 kg your BMI is just above the normal range, hence should not really be worried about.
It is good that the blood tests and the skin analysis are normal.

Epididymitis can be diagnosed only on actual palpation by a Surgeon or by Ultrasonography and color doppler examination.
Get this too done and be assured. Rest of the advise as already given above.
