Question: My 14 year old daughter has been dealing with getting a red cheek on the right side of her face for some time, also a small area that feels like it is burning, we have gone to the dermatologists and have gotten ointments. She was recently diagnosed with mono, a fellow soccer player had it and apparently was drinking out of her water bottle. The redness continues and it is getting difficult ultimate for her to handle it. Not sure what else to do. She likes the old because it keeps the redness in che k but it continually comes back. NOT SURE WHAT ELSE TO DO FOR HER.not certain if hormones. Thus probably started in August prior to high school. Now she is constantly placing her hand on her face.

Brief Answer:
The mono will subside automatically. Gurgling would help.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Let me tell you that mono or infectious mononucleosis is caused due to a virus called Epstein Barr virus which is quite commonly found around us. So although she had shared water with the soccer fellow, there are also chances that she might have got it elsewhere. Viral infections do not respond to antibiotics and so giving antibiotics would not make the infection go away faster. All you have to do is to be patient and wait for it to subside. Meanwhile gurgling with lukewarm water should be helpful.

About the redness on her cheeks, it seems to be due to unrelated cause and it would really be helpful if you could share an image of the affected areas. Based on that I would be able to guide you further.
