Suggest Remedy For Recurrent Swollen Tonsils, Fever And Mouth Ulcers After Smoking Meth

default
Posted on Fri, 13 Mar 2015
Question: Hi Doc ,

For the last 1.5 years I have smoked meth occasionally ( sometimes twice a week & sometimes once every two weeks ).

Not always however over this duration I have had episodes where during my come down suddenly my tonsils would get swollen . After which I get a really bad fever... After a few days it goes away . However I guess iv had repeat episodes maybe 3-4 times now over the 1.5 years. My most recent on Tuesday.

Also sometimes ( again occasionally ) after meth use I'll get a bad cold sore or ulcer in mouth & even a bad boil at the back of the neck.... ( these are usually seperate to tonsils ).

Not bad but I also always have flam stuck in my throat , & after use particularly & sometimes even when I am not using I feel like a ball is stuck in the back of the throat...

During this 1.5 years also I am always feeling fatigued , even when I am not using for weeks I still just can't get up in the mornings...

What could it be ? Why does it keep coming back ?.

Brief Answer:
This could be due to methamphetamine.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to healthcare magic.
I had gone through your question.
I can understand your concern.

This could be due to methamphetamine. Which causes injury to oral cavity and throat mucosa. The damaged mucosa is prone for infection.

I recommend the following.
1) Quit methamphetamine. Which could be root cause for all your symptoms. You need to consult yourdoctors for the same.
If you have throat pain, fever then I recommend you
2) A course of antibiotics.
3) Salt water gargling. Add a pinch of salt to a glass of warm of water.
3) Local anesthetic based gargles for mouth ulcers.
4) Analgesics like tablet paracetamol for pain.
5) Repeated episodes of tonsils need a surgical removal.
6) Methamphetamine withdrawal could be cause for your fatigue. You need proper evaluation and guidance for withdrawal. Kindly consult your doctor for the same.

You will be fine.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any questions, I am happy to help.

Wish you a good health and speedy recovery.
