Suggest Remedy For Persistent Pain In Hips After Injury

default
Posted on Tue, 9 Feb 2016
Question: I fell on my hip as I was exiting from the car. Xray show no breaks. Had physical therapy four times in 2 weeks.
Yet the pain does not decrease. When I sit down I feel no pain but the second I put weight on the right leg which is injured, I feel the pain. I take Hydrocodone for pain but it not seem to be effective at all. Could I possibly have just cracked it and was missed when reading the Xray or what?

Brief Answer:
Please send a copy of your x ray for review however fracture less likely

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. I see x rays regularly and if you are able to walk and there is no significant pain in the hip joint then a fracture is unlikely. It can be due to muscle spasm and tightness in the region of injury or a ligament injury.

2. However if you want to have your x ray reviewed then please upload a copy of your x ray and I will see it in detail.

3. Hydrocodone is an effective pain relief but if you have been taking it for many days then it will not suppress the pain enough. It is suggested to use an ointment or spray containing a pain relief and muscle relaxant combination.

4. It is important to know where is the pain when you put weight on your right leg, if your knee gets painful then a meniscus injury might be suspected.

5. Probably you had a bad fall and the muscles were injured. Please avoid heavy physical activity for some time and allow the muscle spasm is likely to heal in 2 to 4 weeks.

Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.
