Brief Answer:
PERSISTENT FEVER(MORE THAN 4 DAYS) NEEDS EVALUATION

Detailed Answer:
Hello Thania

Thanks for the query

The most common cause of fever in an otherwise playful child is a viral infection. The temperature pattern in viral fever usually starts declining in frequency or severity after 72 hours.
The viral infection usually manifests with either respiratory(cough/cold) or intestinal symptoms(loose stool/vomiting).Sometimes few bacterial infection like urinary infection may manifest initially with fever only and later on urinary symptoms appear.I would like to know whether your child has any of these.

Viral fever differentiate from bacterial infection in that children are usually playful and active in inter febrile period in viral infection.

Give him paracetamol for fever. Continue feeding as before illness along with plenty of fluids.Make a chart of temperature to monitor the pattern of fever.
So if fever is persisting for more than 72-96 hours or if baby is getting drowsy consult your pediatrician for proper evaluation and management accordingly.

I would be glad to answer if you have any further query.
Wish your son good health.
Regards

Brief Answer:
Give him plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Welcome again

The main aim in management of diarrhea is to give plenty of fluids(ORS) to prevent the dehydration.
Sometimes baby does not want to take ORS. In that condition give him plain water with ORS sips in between.Continue the feeding as before illness.Decrease the milk intake as there is transient lactose intolerance during loose stool.Along with fluid Zinc syrup and probiotics should be given as this helps in early recovery.
Watch for decreased urine output, vomiting, poor oral acceptance, poor activity or excessive irritability. If you notice any of these consult emergency medical room immediately.

I hope this answers your query
