Trauma can result in injury to the skin, muscles and ligaments, bones.

The bones of the pelvis and the femur in the thighs would be the bones that could sustain damage in severe trauma to this area of the body.
There are no other bones in the gluteal region.

Fracture of the pelvis or the femur at the level of the hip would be associated with significant pain and difficulty with walking.
There may also be a shortening of the affected side, swelling, deformity and a change in the gait.

If you are experiencing any of the above then it would be best to visit your doctor or ER as soon as possible for assessment.

If these symptoms are not present then it is likely that the injury is to the soft tissue only.
In this case, in addition to the heat pad, the use of anti inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, aspirin, naproxen or cataflam,

Summary: (1) can sustain injury to skin, muscles/ligaments/tendons, bones

(2) if there is a bony injury then need to be seen as soon as possible

(3)if it is soft tissue then the use of anti inflammatory drugs way help

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
