Suggest Remedy For Pain During Defecation In A Person With GERD

default
Posted on Fri, 6 Nov 2015
Question: When I sit to excrete fecal matter, and strain just a little, I get a sharp pain in my left ribcage area. I also have had persistent GERD symptoms lately. However, the pain in the side has happened intermittently even before this GERD event. Is this some kind of gastrointestinal problem?

Brief Answer:
Yes, the location does determine the presence of a GIT problem

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. The pain in the left rib cage region does exhibit a gastrointestinal abnormality, and is more related to conditions like:

+Irritable bowel syndrome
+Gastritis
+Peptic ulcer disease
+Diverticulitis
+Diverticulosis
+Inflammatory bowel disease
and a few others.

I would first recommend going through the above listed conditions, and see which one you think seems more likely and write back to me if at all you need more information and guidance.

As for the advise I have for you, I do recommend a few investigations along with a doctors visit, like:

+Colonoscopy (but only during the presentation of your symptoms)
+Antacids
+Upper GI endoscopy
+Avoid trigger foods and drinks (food or drinks that can cause the triggering of your symptoms)
+Drink plenty of fluids
+Avoid alcohol and smoking
+Avoid spicy food
+Avoid fried food/fatty food/oily food

I hope you find my response helpful. Please also feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I would be more than happy to help.

Best wishes.
