Posted on Wed, 18 Nov 2015
Question: I had a hip replacement in August which caused me a lot of muscle pain and low back pain. I decided to get radiofrequency done to help with low back pain since I have degeneration disc and back. I had the rf done on Monday and Friday I got horrible muscle pains in my lower back. Do you know why? was it rf procedure that aggravated it. If so, how long will this pain last. I am having a hard time bending and sitting. thanks

Brief Answer:
Radiofrequency can increase pain some time

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I think that your pain may have increased due to radio frequency. It will reduce in three to four days so no need to worried about this. I would suggest you following.
1.Do bed rest for a week and avoid forward bending and weight lifting.
2.Take muscle relaxant like Myoril or Myospaz one daily.
3.Hot water fomentation
4.Volini gel local application
I hope these steps will be helpful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks

Thanks. It's been almost a week now since I have had this pain. I was doing pretty good and then 4 days after radiofrequency, I started getting pains. I originally had pains in my right side, now it is in left. Isn't that weird? Like I said, it's been almost a week since my pains got worse. Feels like muscles. Hopefully they go away soon? thanks again

Brief Answer:
Pain will go in a week

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Do not worry as some time pain can take some time in decreasing specially if there is cold weather or you do some jerky activities like travelling. But this is temporary and will not going to last longer.
You can take medicine which I suggested in my previous answer.
Thanks

Thanks. I have been constipated for a week now. I am sure the pain meds are contributing with that. Is there a certain area of the back where it hurts when constipated? Like I mentioned, this pain started over a week ago around my waist like muscles, went to right now on left back and thigh. I took stool softener yesterday, did an enema today and only a couple of hard small balls came out. thanks in advance

hi. I took magnesium citrate which is equivalent to what you said and it worked. Thanks. I still have my lower back pain. It's been two weeks since I had radiofrequency and this pain started last week. Do you still think it was caused by this and if so, why? I guess I am disgusted so bear with me. I do have degenerative disc disease. Thanks!!

Brief Answer:
Pain an be caused by radiofrquency

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Since you already have degenerated disc disease there is high chances that it has caused back pain. Radiofrequency can also cause this. Cause in most probably muscel spasm. In both cases it will going to decrease in due time.

Brief Answer:
TENS is helpful in pain

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Yes if you want then you can take TENS therapy. This is helpful in pain. But remember that it is effective for short period of time. You can say that it is only for symptomatic relief.
Muscle relaxant needs to be taken for two weeks. After that you can gradually decrease the dose.
thanks
