Suggest Remedy For Lack Of Stamina, Palpitations And Chest Pain

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Jun 2016
Question: Unchanged since original request. Still feel puny: lack of stamina, palpitations, cold intolerance (normal TSH and T4). Chest wall pain, aching, unrelated to exertion, with parasternal tenderness. No friction rub or ekg findings or ischemia. As a retired Internist/nephrolost I'm doubly frustrated at puzzling constellation of symptons.

Brief Answer:
costochondritis? Investigation is required

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

although it does not explain all symptoms, costochondritis would explain chest wall pain with parasternal tenderness and lack of other findings. Bornholm's disease could be an alternative diagnosis, although it doesn't sound very likely.

Regarding the lack of stamina, cold intolerance and palpitations...
The palpitations would have to be investigated. Since your ECG is normal, a Holter monitor should be considered. The monitor should detect potential electrocardiographic abnormalities when the symptom occurs.

Lack of stamina and cold intolerance are common in cancer patients, although I don't know if this is the case with you. Prostate cancer can be "benign" sometimes.

A trial with a NSAID (unless contraindicated) might be a good place to start from, since it may relieve costochondritis' pain.
