Suggest Remedy For Infected Wound
Question: I was stung by a stingray in thailand and I think the would is becoming infected. What antibiotics should I look for at the pharmacy?

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Skin wound infection following sting by stingray would be most likely due to staphylococcus aureus.
The first line antibiotic would be dicloxacillin (standard dose 250 mg q 6 hr) preferably in in combination with a cephalosporin ( e.g. cefixime with standard dose of 200 mg twice a day) both orally.
Locally you can apply Mupirocin skin ointment.
However all stingray injuries should be medically assessed; the wound must be thoroughly cleaned, and surgical exploration is often required to remove any XXXXXXX fragments remaining in the wound.
