Suggest Remedy For Cough And Dizziness When On Lisinopril

default
Posted on Mon, 9 Feb 2015
Question: Hi -
Both my brother and I were prescribed Lisinopril. I had unbelievable side effects. My doctor, S Marsh MD at University Hospitals ignored my issues, cough, congested ear, dizziness, etc. A doctor friend asked whether I am taking Lisinopril, because the symptoms pointed in that direction. I stopped taking the stupd drug and had my equilibrium back w/in two days. The cough subsided within two weeks, the congested ear was not treated properly by another UH doctor - Fluticasone!!! - and I had additional problems consequently, i.e. blurred vision and nosebleed and all of a sudden weight gain (Fluticasone) even though I had/have no appetite and have not eaten full meals for months now. I stopped all medications. Still don't know what to do about the ear congestion. Am eating small meals and drinking orange juice and such to alleviate hypoglycemic effects. Angret M Georgi

Brief Answer:
Lisinopril, Ear congestion needs ENT expert

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Lisinopril like any other ACE inhibitor is notorious for these dry coughs , dizziness, headaches etc. And should not be a first medicine to start with unless a diabetic patient in which case ACE inhibitors are prefered due to their renal protective role.

But stopping the hypertension meds abruptly might be damaging too. 130 although is not bad reading and not even hypertension if in controlled range persistently.

All you need to do is modify diet and lifestyle, minimal sodium intake of less than 2gm salts and minimizing sugars too as that contains sodium too. Keep an eye on your lipid profile and reduce fats intake and maintain weight etc.

As far as the ear congestion si concerned, it is least likel to be correlated with Lisinopril and might be a separate entity.

Clogged ears are very disturbing and they themselves may cause dizziness and all you need is pay a visit to an otorhinolaryngologist and let them have a look at your ear canal. It is easily manageable problem and resolves very often.

Use chewing gums quite often it helps the congested ears and see an otorhinolaryngologist. It might need some cleaning of the air canal as wax etc may cause these clogged congested ear symptoms sometimes.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Regards.
Khan
