Suggest Remedy For Contagious Rash And Allergy

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Dec 2014
Question: Hi I am trying to get a response from a previous question. I been having an on and off again rash all over my body for the past few months. I'm worried it could be scabies or possibly some other type of contagious rash. It started out on my legs from what I remember but is now the worse on my stomach and arms/hands. Breast are also itchy but no sign of the rash/hive there. If this is not scabies or an allergy, what could it possibly be? I have attached pictures. Also note that it does get worse at night and an oatmeal bath did seem to make the hives go down.

Brief Answer:
Most probably scabies

Detailed Answer:
Hello

My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query & the attached pictures and would try to help you in the best possible way. From your history & images it appears to be scabies. It can spread to family members by the use of infected towels or intimate contact but in most of the cases it is NOT dangerous or life threatening other than that being contagious. If i were your treating doctor then i would have given following two two treatment options that can cure scabies:

First, to apply 0.5% permethrin lotion from NECK to TOE including inter-digital clefts. Apply it after taking night bath and make sure it is kept applied for whole night. This you & everyone who has this rash and itching need to follow for 3 days.

Second option is use of ivermectin tablets. They require prior LFTs and prescription which you can get from a local doctor.

- levocetirizine tablet will help with itch.

Besides these, following general care needs to be done as well:
> wash all clothes including bedding thoroughly with detergent.
> Avoid scratching else it will leave scar.
> do not leave treatment in the middle.

Conclusion:
Scabies is a contagious non-lethal disease that can be cured with treatment. A visit to a local doctor(preferably dermatologist) will help you better in prescription. As the rashes have been for a longer time so CBC is also suggested to rule out any other blood disorder.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
