Suggest Remedy For Contagious Flu Among Family Members

Question: The 24 hour flu has gone through our house over the weekend. My husband got it as well as myself. He threw up and had diarrhea. I felt nauseous all day, but only had diarrhea. My sister is visiting and has it now and has thrown up multiple times and has diarrhea. I'm worried as I'm the only one who never actually threw up. Can the same flu affect people differently? Or could I get it again as I obviously didn't throw up like everyone else? I'm worried as I have a 3 month old baby I'm taking care of that has thrown up too. It's it possible to catch it again?

Flu symptoms

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

Your family has had the 24 hour flu and everyone except you had vomiting. That is not uncommon. Everyone has different symptoms with a viral illness. Once you have the infection your body will create antibodies. So one you have the infection the likelihood of getting the same infection again is remote. you can get back to back infections but they are usually not the same virus.

For your child it is real important to maintain hydration with the flu. Keep encouraging the child with fluids usually pedialyte which is specifically formulated for children.

ok, so I don't need to worry about getting this one again? Even with my sister still having it in our house? Throwing up scares me, sounds silly, but it's true. My son is eating better today and I've used some Pedialyte.

Brief Answer:
no need to worry

Detailed Answer:
Yes there is little chance for you to recontact this virus. I would be cautious with hand washing and keeping your hands away from your face. This will reduce any chance of infection and is overall good health practices
