Suggest Remedy For Cervical Polyp

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Oct 2015
Question: Hello
I had my annual exam a few weeks ago and the pap was normal. The nurse practitioner found a polyp on my cervix and scheduled an appointment with my doctor in a month for him to look at it.

I'm 40 years old and have no periods from a Mirena IUD

After I went to the bathroom, there was a decent amount of bright red blood on the tp and what looked like a reddish piece of tissue in the toilet. I didn't investigate much further. Since I don't have periods, could that have been the polyp or parts of it?

Brief Answer:
Polyp tissue yes

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM for you medical questions

You had a pap smear and the Nurse practitioner noted a cervical polyp. With the pap smear she could have sheared a small portion of the polyp off and you found it today when you went to the bathroom. The cervical polyp is a extra tissue fro the cervix and common. They are very friable and break off easily so this is probably what you saw. I do recommend that you see your medical provider as scheduled. They may elect at that time to remove the polyp all together. That decision will be made when they look at the polyp.

Thank you. I have a follow up appointment in November for the Dr to look at it and possibly remove. I was just concerned since I have not seen bright red blood since I had the Mirena inserted 3 years ago. Thanks again
