Question: 4-30-16 Hi Dr. Wachsman, Thanks for the F/U about my D.I.S.H. condition. As per your advice, I am scheduled for a bone density scan Monday May 2 at our local hospital. I will pass along a print-out of your advice to me, as well as a copy of my previous Dexa scan ( done 5- 2012) for the radiologist to consider. I'll be sure my GP & my GYN get copies of the report. Between you & me, getting old isn't for the faint-hearted. best, XXXXXXX XXXXXXX

....said the person whose grandparents 3 of whom didn't live past 65 and one live to 100. My father did Olympic level exercise most weeks and lived about double the length of his parents.
Yes, the dexa scan is critical to decide where to go with bone density treatments.
but the other side is the amount of stress onto the bones/muscles tendons.
On the one hand there is lowering weight and increasing muscle with textbook guidelines on diet and exercise. They are plain, mathematically wrong. bounce slightly on a scale and see the range of weights you get.... more than 20 pounds right? then the gracefulness of the movement is more force than the amount of wweight you would lose. Furthermore, this amount changes by factors of 2 to 10 based upon whwther the weight is distributed evenly (2 fold if on one leg instead of two, much higher if it is maldistributed on less than one leg !)
