Suggest Remedies For Severe Carpal Tunnel In Left Hand

default
Posted on Fri, 29 Jul 2016
Question: I've been diagnosed with Severe Carpal Tunnel, left hand. This is a result from a fall on my left side which fractured and dislocated my left elbow, which was surgically repaired with metal plate and 12 screws. I am 73 yo and right handed. There's no pain, but the MF and RF fingers and fingertips are numb. This is a nuisance which inhibits some ability to use left hand for detail work (car hobby, home repairs, etc). What are your thoughts on surgery in this situation?
Thanks, XXXX

Brief Answer:
Could be irritation of ulnar nerve as well.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Rich.

Thanks for the query.

Fracture of the elbow cannot cause carpal tunnel syndrome.

Fracture of the wrist can cause the same.

Numbness of the middle and ring fingers could be due to combined irritation of median and ulnar nerves.

Do get a Nerve conduction study of both the nerves to confirm.

You can take Tablet Pregabalin 75 mg at night for a month. This will help with the tingling and numbness.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Regards,

Dr. Aashish Raghu
