Hello,
I am sorry to hear this. I have a few questions so that I can respond:
1. How long ago did this happen?
2. Is there any swelling, bruising or deformity?
3. How much pain are you in? (mild to severe)
4. Are you able to urinate ok without pain?
5. Was there twisting/torsion of the penis in when it was caught, or is the problem of the skin rather than internally? If the problem is that the skin was abraded or torn/lacerated, can you describe the size of the wound and severity?
Thanks - will respond after I hear back.

1 - this happened earlier today
2 - swelling
3 - it's definitely not severe but I'm definitely uncomfortable
4 - because of the swelling urinating feels a little difficult but I am still able to
5 - luckily the skin did not break so there is no laceration

Hi -
You didn't mention torsion or compression of the penis during the injury, so I will assume that the main problem is superficial but I can't tell entirely.
If the swelling is noticeable, best to go in to an urgent care or ER to be seen to make sure there was no fracture (the internal structures of the penis can become fractured if bent severely although this is more likely to happen when erect than when not).
If this is the case, the doctor who does the initial evaluation may want you to be seen by a urologist.
If the swelling is mild and subsiding or not getting worse, and you are able to urinate ok, then you can wait. It's hard for me to be able to say without being able to examine you. So if there is any concern, error on the side of safety and go in to be seen.
If you go to an urgent care, request to be seen by a physician (medical doctor) and not a PA or NP as evaluation may require a higher level of expertise than a physician's assistant or nurse practitioner can provide.
