Question: My 13-year-old son was sent home from XXXXXXX Children's Hospital last night, after being examined for appendecitis, since the pain in his lower abdomen was decreasing, and not increasing. He had just finished strenuous activity playing sports and the pain in his lower abdomen was at one point a 10 out of 10 , later 6 and later 2. 24 hours later he returned to lacrosse practice and after strenuous running the same symptoms occurred this time with the pain being approximately 4 or 5 out of 10. He has no other symptoms. He has lower than 98.6, he has an appetite, no issues with defecation or urination, etc. The pain however is isolated from his belly button to the lower portion of his abdomen on the right side. The ER doctor was reluctant to do a CAT scan for concern of unnecessary radiation, since the pain seemed to be subsiding. Having been to the ER for several hours last night and sent home I am at a loss for the best next steps. His pain is extremely manageable right now, maybe a 3 to 4, and he is going to bed. I am curious what my next strp should be,

Brief Ans-Don't Be Panicky, things are improving -Wait and Watch is the Best Approach!!

Hi Dear !! Thanks for the query to HCM.
Read and reviewed your query and your health concerns.
Your ER is right in not going for CAT Scan as clinically, your son is improving lately with whatever treatment is on with the doctors there.
The intensity of abdominal pain is also reduced and so also its frequency.
There is no issue with appetite, no issues with defection or urination, etc.

Just Relax and Don't Worry !!
So Don't be panicky about ? appendicitis being not treated !!
By your submissions- the pain is extremely manageable right now- 3 or 4 on pain score.

So Your next step should be-
To Wait and Watch-and be patient and COOPERATE with your attending DOCTORS,this is the BEST WAY out !!!
As the health issue is on way to improvement, you need not worry at all !!
