Suggest Remedies For Increased Creatinine Level In Blood

default
Posted on Fri, 25 Nov 2016
Question: I had my latest complete metabolic panel. Everything was normal except my Creatinine was 1.27 and my eGFR was only 56. My BUN was 13. My Creatinine in July was 1.36, in April 1.30 and January 1.34. My eGFR in July was 52 and in April it was 55. I work out and Sauna 3 times a week and my muscle mass, I believe, is more than most men much younger. I do not have diabetes, nor pre diabetes. My blood pressure is usually around 118 over 75. I want to know if I need to consider medication to reduce my Creatinine or try some supplements. please advise.

Brief Answer:
no medicines needed.

Detailed Answer:

Hi XXXXXXX

your creatinine level are almost same, the amount of change you are describing is inherent to the estimation techniques if you put the same sample in the machine again you can have upto 5% variability in the creatinine level. The GFR is an estimation calculated mathematically by the value of your creatinine level so it also fluctuates.

we should see the trend if it is persistently rising then it is a problem like 1.3 then 1.4 then 1.6 like that.

as you say you are more muscular, muscle mass is a source of creatinine. so if your muscle mass was less maybe your s. creatinine would have been less. but this does not mean you should decreases your muscle mass as the renal function is not changing.

so what you can do to improve your kidney function and bring down creatinine-

1. stop intake of pain killers if you take them
2. stop any protein supplement powders.
3. decrease your meat intake by 50%

you should discuss for medication with your doctor- you may need some vitamin D and bicarbonate if your blood work up shows deficiency.

otherwise ifeel you are ok

best wishes
