Question: My husband is a very young, works out everyday, ambitious, full of life 80 year old, Over all, very good health. Has had 2 stints but hasn’t slowed him down in the least. He does have sinus issues, but does not take anything for it. Yesterday, he felt fine all day, ate at a street fair, cheese curds and FF. came home had a sandwich & Taco dip for supper with 4 beers. sat down to watch a movie, he started coughing up a lot of Phlegm. ….a bit later, started again, but felt like it was going to come up but didn't.. watched movie, he felt fine, went to bed around 10 and within an hour, woke up with sweats, light headed, and breathing difficulty. Lasted for about 5 hours. he couldn't lay down because he felt like he was going to choke. He said it felt like he was suffocating, so walked around the entire time, until he felt good enough to lay down around 3:30am, go to sleep…..this am, stuffy, with nose running & I did give him an allegra this am., He has had sinus problems forever, constant runny nose and stuffy, never has had any kind of allergy testing. The meds he is on are Triamterene/HCTZ 37.5 25mg, Folic Acid 1 mg. Amlodipine 10mg , Atenolol 100 mg, Lipator & 325 aspirin Would appreciate your opinion on a cause of this and if medical attention needs to be this coming week for a checkup…etc…..thank you for your concern. Brief Answer:
Possibility of acute allergic bronchitis is more.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
I have gone through the detailed history you have given.
By your history and description, possibility of acute allergic bronchitis is more.
Allergy can be due to anything, food, outside environment, dust, chemicals, smell etc.
Or he caught viral infection which is causing acute bronchitis.
Well you can wait for 1-2 days. Give him Allegra and ask him to do warm water gargles and steam inhalation 4-5 times a day.
If he improves in 1-2 days then no need to consult doctor.
But if he doesn't improve or worsen in 1-2 days then consult doctor.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your husband. Thanks.
