Suggest Remedies For Bronchitis Post A Knee Replacement Surgery

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Mar 2017
Question: I had a right knee replacement Nov. 2, 2016. At last check up, 12/15, the X-ray looked perfect. Dec. 17 I came down with a terrible bronchitis, that involved lots of coughing, I was-in-bed sick with it for two weeks. About XXXXXXX 3 I got up out of a straight chair and experienced a very sharp pain the whole length of my right leg. The frequency of the sharp pain comes and goes, but is worst in the morning, to the point that I can hardly walk. Now it is focused in the back of my thigh, glute down to knee. I should add that I have a Dx of polyarthritis (10 years) from my Rheumatologist and take 1 Celebrex/day to try to control those symptoms, which are holding pretty well. I have been relatively athlectic all my life and want to continue with the physical therapy to et strong again, but cannot with this pain. A entence was lost in my history. I should add that I had back surgery at L3-4 and 4-5 for spinal stenosis in May 2009. After a long painful recovery, probably due to inflamation, I have had no back pain for 4 + years, with good range of motion. I did not have fusion, nor spacers, or any other appliance put in my back.

Brief Answer:
please get an X-ray of LS spine done in the first place

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have read your query.

If I're your treating doctor I would advise you X-rays of lumbosacral spine in AP and Lateral view to see present condition to vertebrae, disc and surrounding soft tissues.

Nerves which supply the thigh and leg region come from lumbar area, also you have undergone lumbar spine surgery so a review--X-ray is mandatory for you.

You should visit your Orthopedic surgeon, and discuss all these which I have explained here, s/he may also examine you thoroughly and clinical tests like straight leg raising etc and proceed accordingly.

If needed your orthopedic surgeon may also advice you MRI scan of lumbosacral region.

Till then please avoid any form of exercise.

In the meanwhile, have Tab.aceclofenac100mg+ Thiocolchicoside4mg twice a day by prescription of your treating doctor (in addition to the medicines you are already having) as this medicine is not over the counter.

Apply hot packs.

Thanks, feel free to ask further.

Thank you. I saw Internal Medicine Dr. this am. My leg pain is now better after a quiet weekend. His tests today revealed no unusual weakness in the right leg. He thinks the awful pain is due to periodic inflammation, and prescribed a ten day tapering course of predisone. We will watch it closely, and get an X-ray spinal study if pain does not go away completely. Thank you again for your attention to my question.
