default
Posted on Tue, 13 Sep 2016
Question: Hi, I have a hard lump on the right side of my hard palate, the lump is hard surrounded by redness and causes pain when pushed on with my tongue, I do have a lump on the left side also just not nearly as large, should I be concerned this could be cancerous? I have been referred to an ENT but is a 4 month minimum waiting list, my father passed from cancer which started in his Jaw and it makes me more concerned for this lump I also am HPV positive which also I know is a risk. Wondering if I should push to see someone quicker
thanks

Brief Answer:
Seek a surgeon's appointment at the earliest

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. It is very important to examine the lump clinically. The probability of the lump being cancerous cannot be ruled out without a FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology) or a biopsy. However, if it is cancerous, it would be showing rapid increase in size. If the lump is growing in size, you should arrange to meet a surgeon on priority basis such that he could get it evaluated at the earliest.

Another possibility is a hamless blockage of salivary glands leading to collection of the secretions inside the lump and thereby leading to lump formation. Your doctor would be able to distinguish it.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
