Suggest Medicines To Treat Severe Peripheral Neuropathy

default
Posted on Wed, 14 May 2014
Question: I had a test done by a neurologist to see how bad my neuropathy had become. I have an ultra sensation up to my hips which feel like I am becoming numb. Have lots of pain in my feet and also have trouble walking as it seems to affect my ability to walk. I feel very unstable at times and have trouble controlling my movements. I am also concerned about what affect this has or will have on my internal organs.
Are there any particular medicines available to help with the pain? Is there any procedure that can halt the progress or is this something that cannot be controlled?

The dosage can the incraesed/another drug added

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this severe peripheral neuropathy. This can be very debilitating and I hope you get some real relief.

Neuropathy can also affect the internal organs when the nerves to the visceral organs are affected. This may lead to feeding problems and cardiovascular symptoms. because you are not reporting any symptoms in this regard, I think you have not yet had any problems at this level.

Neuropathy pain can be managed with nortryptyline starting with 25mg daily and gradually increased by 25mg weekly to attain a maximum of 75mg if symptoms are not improving. Should a dosage of 75g not control these symptoms, gabapentin should be added and titrated to find just what works best for you. Share this with your doctor so that he may consider modifying the treatment accordingly. Your daily dose of 25mg seem too low for any meaningful effects.

Other measures like good and balanced diet, well controlled hypertension. etc will help slow down the rapid progression of this condition.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
