Suggest Medication To Help With Sleep Related Problems

Posted on Tue, 16 Dec 2014
Question: I have had sleep problems and used an over the counter sleep aid together with Luna Sleep. Now I have experienced some short absentee seizures and my neurologist told me not to take the sleep aid (benedryl) any more.
I am also taking paroxetine for anxiety.
Now that I don't take the benedryl I cannot sleep again....
I think the not sleeping part induced my other problems.

Brief Answer:
Alternative to antihistamine

Detailed Answer:
Hello

My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. There are some other OTC sleep medicines apart from antihistamine which you can try. They include melatonin, valerian supplements & zolpidem(may cause hang over in morning). These medicines are for short period of time and are not recommended for long term use. You need to consult your treating doctor for long term treatment. Sleep deprivation is also an important cause of seizure.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
