Suggest Medication For Swine Flu In A Child

default
Posted on Fri, 3 Mar 2017
Question: Hi,
My child is 3.7 years old. We are thinking of giving her a vaccine for HINI (Swine flu).

-- Is it OK to give this vaccine to kids of this age?

--What are the side effects?

--For how long the vaccine will remain effective?

--How many time this vaccine is to be given? Is one injection enough or should we get second injection also after getting the first injection?

--Any specific brand?

We are concerned because of the prevalent Swine flu cases in our region (Hyderabad).
Can you please reply.

Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Suggestions on swine flu vaccination

Detailed Answer:
HI... I understand your concern. Coming to your queries directly -

1. Please go ahead with vaccination for swine flu.

2. Local side effects like pain and redness are the most common side effects. You should avoid the vaccine if the kid has got egg allergy.

3. The vaccine remains effective for 12 months.

4. Less than 9 years if we are vaccinating for the first time we need to give 2 doses 1 month apart and then we need to repeat it yearly once. Dose for kids above 3 years age is 0.5ml intramuscular dose.

5. Any brand efficacy is the same. Please consult your local pediatrician regarding the brand available at XXXXXXX
