Brief Answer:
kindly answer following questions for better advice

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Silicosis might present with the symptoms you mentioned but there are other commoner reasons like lrti which can give rise to the cough. I would like to ask few questions whose answers will help me to guide you properly.
1. Why do you suspect silicosis? Do you work in industry where you are exposed to silica dust? And that too from long period of time atleast few years.
2. Do you have fever with cough too? If yes is it high grade or low grade.
3. What colour is the sputum in cough?
4. What is seen in the chest x ray? Exactly the report if you could specify or a pic of the report.
5. Anybody else in your home having the same problem?
6. Is chest pain during coughing only or even during breathing?
Kindly answer me above all questions so I can give you proper advice and guidance.
Thank you

1. Don't work in industry just a few exposures at home in unventilated rooms with no protection . I have read acute silicosis can start from 1 massive exposure.

2. Fear with low grade temp.

3. Sputum is green and light browny:grey

4. X-ray was clear

5. No one else in home having trouble.

6. Chest pain all the time with back pain not just when cough .

Also what is irti?

I have had bloods done, urine and X-ray all clear .

Brief Answer:
then you might just have LRTI. read ahead

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for following up with me.
Thak you for your answers for the questions.
Its LRTI. lower respiratory tract infections.
So cough with greenish sputum with fever since few days with chest and back pain is your overall complaints.
As you mentioned your chest x ray and blood works is normal.
I doubt it could be silicosis. Because it will not present with fever. Only cough will be there that too dry cough.
As you have sputum with greenish colour it more goes with respiratory infection probably bacterial infection.
You could try taking course of antibiotics such as combination of amoxicillin + clavulinate called as augmentin 625 mg twice a day after food for 5 days. Alternate antibiotic is azithromycin 500mg once a day after food for 3 days only. Along with it paracetamol 500mg tablet twice or even thrice a day for fever and pain. You will require prescription for above meds from your local doctor.
Also for cough an antitussive cough syrup will give you relief. Ask for antitussive cough syrup in pharmacy like cosome syrup and take it twice a day 10ml each time.
I feel with the above advice you will be better in 2 or 3 days.
I hope I have given you satisfactory advice.
Any more question if you have feel free to ask.
Thank you

Would acute silicosis show on a X-ray ?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Abhijit Sonawane (7 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
yes it will

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
Yes silicosis is basically deposition of silica dust in lungs. If large amount is exposed in short time it will cause acute silicosis.
Silica dust is radio opaque so yes it will cast opaque shadows in lung in basal region which cannot go unnoticed.
That is why I asked about chest xray findings. If x ray is clear there is no threat of silicosis.
Do not worry about silicosis.
Take the medications I mentioned in previous reply. You will be fine.
Hope it helps. Thank you
