Posted on Mon, 10 Aug 2015
Question: I have been wearing spectacles for 19 years. My eye power is -3.75/-4.00. I have got a LASIK workup done and have a go ahead. The doctor has advised about two available types of surgery - Blade LASIK or Femto Bladeless surgery. The cost seems to be Rs. 50,000 v/s Rs. 1,10,000. He said that both the options yield same results, but the femto is safer. I am seeking another opinion.

Brief Answer:
If you can afford go for the femtosecond laser surgery.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic.

I am Dr. DADAPEER K, an Ophthalmologist and I will be answering your question.

I reviewed your history.

Since the refractive power is constant for last 8 years you are fit to undergo refractive laser surgery.

Femtosecond bladeless surgery is the most recent one among the refractive laser surgeries. The difference between the blade lasik and femtosecond surgery is in blade lasik, a manual blade called as keratome is used to raise the corneal flap and laser is applied to the corneal bed, whereas in femtosecond surgery, femtosecond laser is used to raise the corneal flap.

Hence there are some chances of having irregular cut in case of blade lasik, however with experienced surgeon, both the results are same.

If you can trust your surgeon, you can go for the blade lasik. However if you do not want to take any risk, then you can opt for the femtosecond laser surgery.

I always say if you can afford go for the femtosecond laser surgery.

Hope this answers your question and the information is helpful to you.
