my father is alcoholic since last 25 years.right now he stays with himself, does not talk much.avoid conversation with everyone.talks as least as possible.but when he is drunk he fights with my mom for no reason.if there is no topic to talk,he will bring one of no importance and will start saying i have to do this,i have to do that. he will start discussing the same thing that has been discussed already. he pretends like there are many problems in his life that's why he is worried, even if there is no problem really. he gets disturbed even by a smallest task he has to do. he is happy to give us money and let us do our work on our own as we wish .but if he has to do something he gets anxious.some important points i would like to mention-
1.he brings back old topics for fight which are gone long time ago.
2.when his alcohol INTOXICATION goes, he becomes normal and pretend like nothing happened when he was drunk.and when we remind him of what he was doing ,he starts blaming us that we are lier's '.but in his mind he knows that he was behaving badly but he cant accept that.
3.when he is drunk and fighting with us and suppose a phone call comes or a outsider comes he starts behaving normally like nothing was happening there.
4.he cries many times for no reason, like he wants us to believe that he has many problems in life.
5.he abuses my mom to go to his brothers home and my sisters to go there husbands when the come to home. but when my mom goes for few days to his brother in anger, my dad start missing my mom. then he will call her everday and will not drink and then will go there to bring her back. but again after few days its again same.

p.s.- my mom says he was not like this earlier, but has become like this since last 10 years.

ps. 4 months ago i found out i have obsessive compulsive disorder. and i am taking medication for that.

Brief Answer:
Alcohol induced behaviour

Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for reverting back.

1. Danger dose of Alcohol

The danger dose of alcohol consumption is > 80g/day for atleast 8 years. A steady daily intake is more dangerous than intermittent drinking [doesn't include binge drinking]. Alcohol related liver damage does not exist if the intake is below 40g/day.

Alcohol equivalents
. Whisky: 30 ml = 10g
. Wine: 100 ml = 10g
. Beer: 250 ml = 10g

PS. check with LFT [liver function tests] for liver enzymes and ultrasonography regarding Liver Function.

2. Take: old brown rice, green gram dal and soup, amla murraba, sugar, dates, pomegranate, coconut, old ghee, milk, pickles, bottle gourd, XXXXXXX fasting, sauna bath, good company, music, spend more time with your better half.

Avoid: tobacco in any form, excess heat [physical], corrylium, errhine therapy.

3. Home Remedies.

i. Boil 1 spoon black pepper powder and 5 spoon jaggery in 4 cup water till 2 cups remain. Filter it and drink for 1 month.

ii. mix 3-4 dates in half glass of butter milk every morning.

iii. regular intake of apples helps to get rid of intoxication and reduces thirst for wines or any type of liquor.

4. In ALD [alcoholic Liver disease] I usually prescribe hepato-protective drugs like:
. कासनी [ kasni]
. कुटकी [kutki]
. निम्ब [nimba]
. अमृता [amrita]
. भृंगराज [bhringraj]
. भूम्यामलकी [bhuiamlaki] which helps in hepato cellular regeneration, immuno-modulation and anti viral activity which is evident through significant improvement in liver function tests and clinical improvement in patients, thus I will recommend to go for Syrup "EVERLIV" which has a major contributory effect on hepatocytes protection and regeneration.

PS. Since immediate abstinence or avoiding alcohol at one might result in alcohol withdrawal syndrome [sweating, anxiety, tremors] thus I would ask to go for fermented medicated alcohol, like
. श्रीखंड आसव [shrikhand assav] and/or
. खर्जुरादी मंथ [ kharjooradi manth]

5. Since alcohol effect every organ system in the body and brain is no exception, as such you should check with a neurologist regarding Wernicke's encephalopathy: [irritability/confusion/depression/visual changes] and/or Korsakoff's Psychosis. [lack of insight, apathy, retrograde amnesia]

PS. check with Thiamine [B1 level]

6. From what type of OCD [obsessive compulsive disorder] are you suffering from?
