Posted on Thu, 11 Feb 2016
Question: I am currently taking 350mg of lamictal and my doctor increased it to 400mg for my depression. Would it be better to take 300mg of wellbutrin to cure my depression or increase the lamictal from 350 mg to 400mg. I have bipolar 2 with psychotice features and I also take geodon, haldol and perphenazine.

Brief Answer:
I think yes

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

Since you have history of good response with wellbutrin it should be preferred over lamictal. I understand that lamictal is approved medication for this purpose but it may not be helpful in every person. On the other hand wellbutrin is not approved for bipolar 2 depression but still it may act on it.

While making choice among available antidepressants the prior response should be taken in account and on that basis it can be assumed that wellbutrin will be better choice for you.

Regarding weight issue wellbutrin is weight neutral in majority while a minor proportion lose some weight when prescribed wellbutrin.

I hope this helps you.
