Suggest Best Contraception Methods To Avoid Unwanted Pregnancy

Question: I am a 46 year old woman, non-smoker, healthy in weight (123, 5'5), exercise regularly. I have been on the pill for 30 years and never missed a dose, nor have I ever conceived, or had an abortion.

In order to complete a recent FSH panel to search for indications of peri menopause, I skipped what would normally have been the first two active pills in my pack, in hopes of getting a reading less masked by the pill all these years.

Unfortunately, I had relations (in a monogamous relationship) at the end of the 2nd day without a pill--and without backup contraception. I had the blood draw Tuesday morning for the FSH test (which came out to 18.2, if that matters at all to this scenario?) I then immediately started my pack, doubling up the first two days. Am back on track, but worried.

Should I get a "Plan B" pill at the pharmacy tonight? It is now 48 hours since the unprotected sexual activity. I am unclear if it's already too late to do this. Answers seem to range about its efficacy from immediately (yes! That would have been smart!) to 72 hours. And I'm stuck in the middle there somewhere.

Thank you for your patience. I was unsure what details would be most relevant. Just wanted to be thorough. It must be tedious to read these messages....

Many thanks,

Brief Answer:
You should go for plan -b.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
In my opinion you should go for Emergency pill Plan-b to avoid unwanted pregnancy.
I know you are thinking that if my FSH is high and you had your remaining pill and you are 46 why I am prescribing this to you?
But believe me there is no harm in taking one plan - b tablet to prevent unwanted pregnancy.
I think I have answered your query if you have further questions I will be happy to help you.
Good luck.
Regards
Dr. Richa
