Question: Suggest alternative to Espazine plus tablet
Sir,
My wife aged 64 years DOB 15 XXXXXXX 1953 Height 5feet weight 55 kg was taking Espazine plus Tab with B'complex morning 1+1 and night 1+1 for the past 23 years. She under gone treatment from17-5-1988 to 23-5-1988 with 4ECT. Now the tablet is not available in the market so I consulted a DPM doctor at my town , he said it is old drug and is difficult to get the equivalent and suggested to take Trinicalm Plus TDS one tablet with zisper ls one at night. She takes Amryl m 1mg for sugar. Now after changing over from Espazine plus to Trinicalm plus the result is not satisfactory. Kindly sagest suitable replacement for Espazine plus so as to get correct treatment for her mental health please.

I can understand your concern. Espazine plus is a brand of Galaxo and consists of Trifluperazine and Trihexyphenidyl. Tricalm plus also has same constituents. She is having poor results because of change in brand of the drug. This occurs because of change in bioavailability and pharmacodynamics in different brands.
You can try Neocalm Plus which is manufactured by Intas pharma and this should help her.
Instead of Ziper you can think of giving her Olanzapine in low dose. This will help in maintain sleep as well as psychotic symptoms.
For some days low dose Clonazepam can be used till she gets adjusted on Trinicalm Plus. This will help in reducing the withdrawal if any.
