Question: Good day,
I've been having typhoid fever for 3 months now and I just concluded a 14 Days IV of Cefepime. I did blood test today and it still confirms typhoid.
I think my body is resisting most of d antibiotics.
Please advise and recommend an effective typhoid antibiotic for me to use.

Hello XXXX,

Welcome to HCM and thank you for posting your query.
I understand your concern.
Please let me know your initial symptoms and how the diagnosis of Typhoid was made.
What blood test did you do now after the antibiotic treatment? Is it widal or blood culture?
Do you have any fever now?

my initial symptoms were feverish, vomiting, lightedness and body weakness.
what I feel now is feverish, body shaking in d morning and tiredness.
The initial diagnosis was blood test which indicates salmonella typhi 1/160 positive.
I took ciprofloxacin tabs twice daily for 10 days.
I did another blood test which shows salmonella 1/80 today.
I still feel feverish now.

Brief Answer:
It is unlikely that you have Typhoid now.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.
Widal test detects the antibodies against Typhoid group of organisms - S. Typhi , S. Paratyphi A & S. Paratyphi B. The antibodies once formed will disappear only after several months.
Please provide the full widal report - First and the repeat.
The Widal test is positive if TO antigen titer is more than 1:160 in an active infection. If only TH antigen titer is more than 1:160, it indicates past infection or immunization against Typhoid.
A single widal test of less than 1:160 can occur in other infections like Malaria.
If you feel feverish still, check you temperature every morning and whenever you feel feverish and let me know.
Also check your blood for malaria and CBC.
You should also do a stool culture in a reliable lab for S.Typhi and a urine culture if you have documented fever of more than 38 degree Celsius.
You are welcome to contact me with the results if you have documented fever.
Take Care
