Question: Hi! My name is XXXXXXX XXXXXXX and I live in XXXX. My wife and I had taken a trip to Italy from October 11 to October 19. I have been getting constipated on and off for a while due to medicines I was taking. On October 14 I was finally able to go to the bathroom but took a very long time to push it out. It was very big and hard. I kept pushing and felt like there was a Nother huge piece stuck. I pushed for a good 20 to 25 minutes and could not get it out. I decided that I would use the tip of an enema to try to break it up some. I realized at that point there was not any poop there and that I had been trying to push something out that was not supposed to come out. The next day I decided to use a fleet enema. I did not have the urge to go to the bathroom after the enema and nothing came out. Not even the Saline solution from the enema came out. Some White jelly like substance was the only thing that came out. We were leaving the next day to come back home. The next day I was able to go a whole lot. It started out hard and continued on till it became diarrhea. I ended up going three days not being able to go to the bathroom again. Last night I got another enema and had a very difficult time inserting it because I had a blockage just inside. I really had to poke around in all several directions to try to insert it. Again I did not have the urge to go after using the enema. The water from the enema came out but nothing else except for a whole lot of the jelly substance. It really was quite a bit. This morning I got really sick to my stomach and was able to go to the bathroom and again it turned into diarrhea. I am really needing to know what I should do and how severe this is. Please help!

Brief Answer:
take polyethylene glycol and lots of fibres

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for putting your query.

At this point, I will suggest you to use polyetyleneglycol which will help you in passing stool without using enema. Titrate dose according to the response. We can start with 1 teaspoon in morning and two at night along with water. If this doesn't help much then add tablet visacodyl. I am not sure these would be available over the counter; but you can check at your pharmacy stores.

In addition take lots of fruits and vegetables and avoid food items made from refined flour. Also add psyllium fibres two teaspoon twice a day. Take lots of fluid too. Do exercise daily.

I am not sure if this is something concerning. However if the loose stools persists or if constipation doesn't resolve with the aformentioned options, it would be wise to see a doctor.

Hope I have answered your query and this will help you. Wish you a good health.

Should I be concerned with the jellylike substance. The day before I flew back home from Italy to Las Vegas I called a doctor from my doctors office. I was told by that Dr. to go straight to the emergency room in Italy and not to get on the plane. She said that jelly like substance was the lining from my anal canal. She said that feces could get into my bloodstream and kill me. Our first flight that we had was an hour and 15 minute flight from Rome to Malon. The next flight out of malan was to New York which was a nine hour flight. I decided to get on the plane and fly and if there was an issue, that after we landed after an hour and fifteen minute flight, I would go to the hospital at that point. I felt so bad on that first flight that I did go to the emergency room when we landed. While I was in the air my hands started to tingle and go numb and my head felt like it was going to explode. I started feeling very sick at that point. I sat in the emergency room for eight hours and never did get seen by a doctor. I checked into the hotel got very sick to my stomach and went to the bathroom and was able to Go A lot!!! After I started going again it turned into diareah. As I said before, there was a whole lot of the jelly like substance that came out the day before yesterday. As I said before I had a very difficult time inserting the enema because there was what seemed like a complete blockage just inside my rectum. Is that just swelling and inflammation that will go away? Do I need to be concerned about feces getting into my bloodstream? Can I feel pretty safe that everything will go back to normal by doing the things you say to do?

Brief Answer:
Visit a Doctor

Detailed Answer:
WElcome back. Jelly like substance is mucus which lines our intestinal tract. I will suggest you to go to ER for examination and evaluation. You may require a colonoscopy examination after getting some blood tests and abdominal xray. I could not understand why your doctor said that stool will go into blood as there is no link between two. So I will suggest you to get examine yourself for evaluation. Wish you agood health
