Brief Answer: Depends on extent of obesity. Detailed Answer: Dear Friend. Welcome to HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I have read your query in detail. I understand your concern. Phentermine is used for the short-term treatment of obesity. Re read the line, it is used for "Short Term" treatment only. First of all we should know that what is the cause of your obesity. If all causes have been rule out, then the following medications are used for I need further details to help you better: 1. What is your weight and Height? 2. Any history of thyroid disorder? 3. Any history of Irregular menses or Acne? 4. Any history of diabetes? 5. Attach any investigations if you have. I need these details so that i can quantify that you require medical treatment of obesity or not. We would discuss about the details of the treatment once i have these details. This is my best opinion for you based on available details. If you any have further query, please ask me. Stay Healthy Dr Anshul Varshney, MD

1. I weight 272lbs and I'm 5'3'' 2. No, I do not have any history of thyroid disorder. 3. No, I do not have any history of Irregular menses or Acne. 4. My mother has diabetes, but was told it was due to having a kidney transplant. Other then that, no there's no history of diabetes. This isn't just a "I want to be skinny!" type thing. I want to live a healthy lifestyle. I gained all my weight when I was in a very unhealthy relationship with someone. Due to all the negativity, I used food as my crouch. If I can get some type of drug to help me along my way. I was thinking I'd do a 1,200 calorie diet and do some type of exercise daily..either going for a walk or going to the gym. Do you think that would work for me?

Brief Answer: Detail follows. Detailed Answer: Dear Friend. You are definitely overweight. But trust me best way to loose weight is execising and diet modification. You can not loose weight by just using medicines. I would like to give you my example only, i was overweight, i worked hard in gym, improved my diet and now i am perfectly in figure. For the matter of your query, following are the drugs used for obesity, but ther are used only for morbid obesity: 1. Fluoxetine 2. Orlistat. I don't recommend them in your case, they won't help you. Work hard, do gym sessions/swimming. You would feel good and lighter and happy. If you loose weight by medications, it's temporary, you would gain it with more side effects. That is my truthful and best advise for you, that even i have followed in my life. If you have any further query, please ask me, else close the discussion and rate it.
