Question: I have used Patanol for seasonal allergies when my eyes are irritated. It has worked very well but my insurance no longer covers it. I am going to ask my dr for an alternative prescription. Do you have any idea what drops are effective ?

Brief Answer:
alaway, zaditor, azelastine, epinastine

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Patanol is the name for the medication olopatadine which is both an antihistamine and a mast cell stabiliser.
Mast cells are cells/units that contain histamine and other chemicals that take part in allergic reactions.

Medications that stabilize mast cells reduce/prevent the release of histamine and these other chemicals.

There are other drops that are mast cells stabilizers or anti histamine but no combination like the olopatadine.
Eg ketotifen drops are mast cell stabilizer drops and may help you , they go by names such as alaway and zaditor and are effective.

Anti histamine eye drop alternatives are azelastine (optivar) , epinastine (elestat)

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
