Brief Answer:
low fiber high protein light food

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX

Greetings from Healthcaremagic.

Typhoid has a direct effect on the digestive system and requires special dietary care even after the symptoms subsides. She is required to consume easy to digest foods that would give rest to the system. First thing is to maintain the fluid and electrolyte balance. To do so, she must take plenty of plain water, tender coconut water and drinks like fresh soups (not the packed ready to make kind), salted lemon juice with sugar or honey (no soda), barley water will also be helpful.

Other precautions that she is required to follow are:

•     Maintaining small and frequent meals.
•     Taking light foods and avoiding peel or seeds of the fruits/vegetables, wherever possible.
•     A protein rich diet would help. She can take low fat milk, and its products. If she eats non veg then white meat and albumin may be taken. Egg yolk, organ and red meats are heavy on digestion, thus, best avoided. Other protein rich foods are dal. Lentils and nut butters., which may be taken in moderation.
•     As the intestinal lining is damaged, it would be wise to avoid insoluble fibers. However, during the recovery phase, seed less cucumber, grated and boiled carrot, or beetroot may be gradually introduced in small portions.
•     No caffeine and carbonated beverages.
•     Some foods to be avoided are capsicum, cabbage, turnip, reddish, garlic and onions.

Since she stays in PG, it is even more important for her to be careful about what she eats. Fried and spicy food may cause flatulence or vomiting, therefore best avoided. Healthy fats like vegetable oils should be used while restricting the fat intake to approx. 4 tsp. per day. Cream and butter preparations, like puffs, cakes, cookies and other bakery products are not good for her health. She may take nuts and dry fruits in moderation.

If possible, she may discuss her condition with the PG service providers to seek modifications in diet.

Please feel free to contact me for further discussion.
