Hi Dr. XXXXXXX ...Good Afternoon
As said on Friday I had my blood sugar test done on this Saturday (12-10-2013) and the results were surprising the details of the same is as under:
Blood Sugar Fasting 96
Urine Glucose Absent
Urine Ketone Absent
Blood Sugar PP 138
Urine Glucose PP Absent
Urine Ketone PP Absent
whereas the test done a month ago had the following results.
Blood Sugar Fasting 230
Blood Sugar PP 208
since I have been doing exercise as well as walking everyday for about an hour and also the dietary changes as advised by my family doctor I think they have shown this results, I am extremely happy with the results that I have today.
Doc. I now have 3 questions to ask you on diabetes please advise.
1) Can I have Sugarless cubes/sweets (not always) as an alternate for sugar in tea/coffee (since I have stopped having sugar n sweets completely)
2) Can I drink (preferably Vodka n beer) once/twice in a week.
3) As an diabetic which fruits/dry fruits can I have either daily or weekly.
Kindly advise me on this please.

Thanks

Hi,

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.

Answer to your questions are as below.

Good to hear that the sugar levels are in control. I would suggest once you get a GTT test done. This will determine the severity of diabetes in you and your response to the high sugar foods.

1) Can I have Sugarless cubes/sweets (not always) as an alternate for sugar in tea/coffee (since I have stopped having sugar n sweets completely)
-- Yes

2) Can I drink (preferably Vodka n beer) once/twice in a week.

--Yes, avoid carbonated drinks.

3) As an diabetic which fruits/dry fruits can I have either daily or weekly.

-- You can have all fruits but not in excess.

Hope, I answered your query.

Brief Answer:
Another blood test...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Glucose Tolerance Test is a blood test that tests your tolerance to sugar intake. You will be doing sequential blood test - fasting, 30 minutes / 1 hour / 2 hour and if needed 3 hour after intake of specified amount of glucose. The test can be done at a cost lower than Rs 1000 INR. You will go in a fasting state early in the morning and once the first sample is taken, you will be given a glucose drink followed by repeat test (at specified hours).

You can be able to plan your diet and exercise regimen based on GTT results.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications.

Regards
