Question: I am suffering from fever since 4 days. In the beginning, body shivering, i had dry cough and now severe cold. when gone for blood test. BLOOD FOR WIDAL SLIDE METHOD:
WITH "H" Antigen 1 in 80 dilutions
WITH "O" Antigen 1 in 160 dilutions.
Malaria is negative
Brief Answer:
Possibly yes, you seem tobe suffering from typhoid
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your question.
WIDAL is not a very specific test, and it is most useful for prognosis rather than diagnosis.
That said, 1:160 of O antigen does suggest that you might be suffering from Typhoid, and the next thing to do is to repeat the WIDAL, and if the antigen titres increase, that is if they become positive in 1:320, then you can be sure that you are indeed suffering from typhoid.
Please consult your treating doctor again after repeating the test and get a proper prescription for antibiotics.
Antibiotics need to be taken for at least 15 days, so please get in touch with your doctor.
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to write back if you have any doubts.
Wishing you speedy recovery.
Regards.
