Question: Hi Doctor,

This is regarding my mother. She is 60 years old. She is suffering with Burning mouth problem since last two years. She is not able to consume spicy food & hot food. Also suffering from frequent sore inside lips and some time on tongue. Doctors gives her some vitamins and after few days treatment she back to normal ( but not able to consume spicy stuff ).

A month back she had a small sore inside her upper left lip & gradually it converts into a small lump inside her upper left lip. Lots of blood and pus coming out of the lump ( from inside & outside).

We visited doctor & he advised us few medicine and antibiotics to cure the lump. But after 15 days of medicine the same not stopped.

Now doctor has advised us to do a small oral surgery to remove the lump from the lip. We have removed some cluster of lump, but still left with some part of that cluster. Now it is paining a lot to her.

My questions.

1. We are worried and just wounding that is that a simptance of Oral/Lip cancer ??
2. What kind of lump it is ?
3. What should we do to get to her to normal ? i.e. to start consume spicy food & to remove balance cluster of lump.
4. What is the possible reasons for such thing ??

Can any one help us to understand that was is a normal lump or some thing else ??

Need help please

Brief Answer:
ENT and Gastro consult required

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

Vit B12 or folic acid deficiency can cause burning mouth and sometimes spices and hot food worsen this and lead to lumps in the mouth.
Oral ulceration can lead to swelling as part of healing process, and can also bleed.

It is important that either a Gastroenterologist sees the entire food passage and ensure she has no oral ulcers or stomach ulcers.
Vit b12 and folate levels should be done.
Complete hemogram (Hb TC DC MCV) at the same time as well.

1. We are worried and just wounding that is that a simptance of Oral/Lip cancer ??
Upper GI endoscopy should address this.
2. What kind of lump it is ?
Difficult to say without a picture.
3. What should we do to get to her to normal ? i.e. to start consume spicy food & to remove balance cluster of lump.
Not recommended for now.
4. What is the possible reasons for such thing ??
As explained above.

I hope that was useful.

Brief Answer:
Need to examine before excluding this diagnosis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

It is not possible to exclude this without a physical examination, directed procedures and if required a biopsy.
If there is no history of tobacco chewing, smoking or betel nut chewing history, then the chances are low; so either an ENT consult or a gastro opinion if there is any symptoms of weight loss, change in bowel habits, dyspepsia is present.

Best Wishes.
