Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

From the treatment that is advised to you I feel that your doctors are suspecting acid peptic disease. It could be simple gastritis or peptic ulcer (erosion of the gastric wall because of increased production of acid in the stomach).

First thing you should do is stop smoking and consumption of alcohol. These further damage the gastric mucosa (wall) and prevent healing of the lesion.

I also suggest you certain life style changes that will help you.

1. Reduce the intake of coffee, tea etc.
2. Do not miss breakfast. Have you meal in time.
3. Do not over eat.
4. Avoid spicy foods etc. Try and have a balanced diet.
5. Reduce stress.
6. Go for a regular walk.
7. Play with kids. Do some yoga, meditation etc.
8. Avoid analgesics like diclofenac, ibuprofen, asprin etc. They damage the gastric mucosa (wall) and further cause problems.

Continue to use Omeprazole and other medications as prescribed by your doctor. (Omeprazole reduces the acid secretion in stomach and helps in healing of the lesion)

If the problem does not subside with all those measures and the treatment given by your doctors further investigations like endoscopy etc may be required.

Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.

Hi,

Endoscopy helps to look into your stomach to see what exactly is going wrong there. It is definitely indicated if there is no improvement in your problem.

The pain at the back of throat could be because of two reasons. One is infections bacterial or fungal etc. Here a local examination will help to identify the cause. Some times culture of the throat swab is required to identify the exact cause. If the cause is identified antibiotics or antifungals etc. may be required.

That throat pain could also be because of increased acidity and acid reflux. If that is the cause then the medication you are on should help. If you are on those medications for a week now and there is no improvement at all then you should be re-examined to arrive at the exact cause.

Try to take a bland diet without much spices etc. Constipation you are having could be because of poor intake. Dietary intake once improved will solve this problem. I think you should re-consult your doctor once since there is no improvement in your condition.

Take care.
