Hello there,

Thanks for writing in.

I would like to have some additional information.

1. Is there a history of fever, evening rise of temperature?
2. Any history of weight loss or appetite loss?
3. Any history of associated cough and cold?
4. Are your bowel and bladder habits normal?
5. Any significant medical history like diabetes, thyroid disorders etc.
6. Any history of stressful situation/anxiety?
7. Site of the headache frontal, temples or back of the head? Is the headache worse on bending forwards?

The possibilities in your case with the info you have provided in your query could be:Sinusitis, Meningitis, Tension Headache.

With the additional info, suppose you have a combination of high-grade fever, neck stiffness and headache, the first thing that comes to my mind is a viral infection. Meningitis is a possibility too in which case you should visit your physician at the earliest as you might need parenteral (injectable) antibiotics or so depending on your diagnosis.

For the time being, you can take Tylenol 500 mg three times a day and do steam inhalation three times a day. Drink plenty of warm water and fluids.

I would be happy to answer any further queries you might have.

Awaiting your reply.

Have a great day.

Regards,
Dr.Divya Kuttikrishnan

thank you for answering my question.

Their is no pattern to my fevers. Just off and on throughout the day and they don't seem to last very long. I will get really hot and sweaty for 20-60 minutes and then go back to normal. I have times during the day where I feel almost normal and then i will begin to have symptoms again.

no weight loss and my appetite is still normal.

I did have some pain in my tonsils but that seems to have passed, as well as some post nasal drip that i was having. But i haven't been coughing or stuffed up.

My bowel is normal as well as my bladder.

No medical history.

My headache is off and on as well. Seems to be the worst in the morning, the same goes for my stiff neck.

I was prescribed amoxicillin, I completed the prescription yesterday. But it didn't seem to fix the problems.

My tonsils are feeling better. My biggest complaints now are stiff-sore neck, headaches(sometimes in the back, but always a dull headache behind nose and eyes) fatigue, slight feeling of ears being blocked (seems to be coming and going, worse at certain times of the day) and off and on sweats where i will get really hot and sweaty from not doing much at all.

Thanks for your help

Hello,

Thanks for the reply.

Probably you had an upper respiratory tract infection as evident by sore throat and postnasal drip, which might have gotten better with amoxicillin.

I feel you can wait and watch for another 3-4 days. Continue with Tylenol 500mg three times a day for 2 days and Steam inhalation three times a day for another two days. For the ear block , you could try using OTRIVIN nasal drops, 2 drops in each nostril 3 times a day for 2 days.

Also, drink plenty of warm water and fluids. I am sure you will feel much better. Another suggestion is DO NOT use a high pillow while sleeping which might worsen your headache and stiff neck (probably a high pillow is the reason why headache and stiff neck is worse in the morning). I hope your Blood pressure is within the normal range.

In case you are still not better in 3-4 days, I would suggest you visit the physician, as you might need to get some blood tests done.

Hope I have answered your questions. Do get back to me if you have further queries.

Have a wonderful day.

Regards,
Dr.Divya Kuttikrishnan
