Question: My friend has a black vertical line on her forehead. It's indented. Should she be concerned? It is on the right side and extends from just below her hairline to her eyebrow.

Two pictures. Sorry neither is very good. The black line isn't nearly as prominent this morning as it was last night. She is not diabetic and currently is taking microgestin(has been for the past 2 years) nuvaring for the 5 years prior.

Brief Answer: Nothing to worry Detailed Answer: Hello Thanks for the pictures. Its very faint and probably it may be just a small venous contusion. Mostly it is due to some minor trauma. However as it is not painful and the fact that its reducing in its prominence, there is nothing much to worry about. It may not be related to the use of microgestin. Still as a precaution, she may do a complete blood count whenever its feasible as per her convenience. The platelet count has to be looked in the complete blood count as the venous contusions should not have occured with no significant trauma. However there is nothing to worry much at this stage. Regards Dr. Srikanth Reddy MD
