Should I Be Concerned About Thin Bowel Movements Inspite Of My History Diverticulosis?

Question: My bowel movements have been getting thinner in diameter for some time now and I usually have to push hard to even get them out. What could be causing this to happen? How concerned should I be about this? I had my only colonoscopy about five years ago and the doctor told me that he found one polyp but dropped it so it could not be checked out. He told me to get another colonoscopy in one year. He also told me I had diverticulosis which I did not know I had. I would appreciate your help about this problem.

Brief Answer: Enterocolic disease Detailed Answer: Dear XXXXX, Frankly speaking you should go for other colonoscopy. At this age with positive history of diverticulosis there are good chances of developing complications. Once a neoplastic process is ruled out you can continue conservative management which you have been rightly prescribed for various problems you are facing. Renal problem, hypertension, arthritis, thyroid disorder are associated with bowel problems as well. So the symptomatic management has to be continued. If you face your problem with courage and try to make your mind tension free you will be having a good control on your problems. I wish you patience and good luck. Truly, Dr. J. Ticku
