Should A Pain Pump Be Implanted For Several Auto Immune Diseases?

Question: Should a patient with with several auto immune diseases have a pain pump surgically implanted? I Have DDD, RA, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, stenosis, extra first ribs in my neck, reflux , hiatal hernia and A spastic colon. I am in constant pain.

The reason I am concerned is several people said people who get infections shouldn't get the pump...people with auto immune diseases tend to get infections...I've had quite a few UTI's and bronchitis 2 times this year..so you Don't think this should prevent me from having the pain pump? Should I have knowledge about who the Dr is that does thus procedure...how can I check out his previous record and how well he has done? Can you recommend How I should pick the Dr that does it. I am due to have the test done on 4/18. I Like the Dr I have he just did a cervical block on my neck yesterday. I want to be as well informed as I can before I make my decision. My previous pain dr said she only recommends this on terminally I'll cancer patients as a last resort. She has me very concerned and confused. That's why I am asking you these questions. Thank you very much.

Brief Answer: Risk benefit should be weighed before implanting Detailed Answer: hi, sorry for the deley. The analgesic pump is for relieving pain and can be used in any patient with chronic severe pain. It is more commonly used in cancer patient due to intolerable pain. Since the chance of infection at the inserted site is present, we need to look for risk and benefit with the pump and with other non invasive procedures. Since it is implantation our body can recognise it as an external object and reaction can develop. this does not mean you should not get implantation and two times infection does not prevent from using the pump but need to weigh risk and benefit. For selecting the doctors you can check online for the available pain and palliative clinic with the reviews at your station and select the doctor.
